Gary Jacob through a Schroeder SA9+ head and Small Block Cab
Thank you to my old friend Dana Cannone, owner and chief engineer of The Church Recording Studio in Pittsburg PA, for sending me this video. Gary Jacob of The Clarks is on steel playing through a Schroeder SA9+ head and Small Block cab. I can’t tell you what a thrill and joy it is for me to hear my creations being played by folks with this level of musicianship. It keeps my heart and soul inline! Thank you!
Why don't you see many Schroeder Amplification amps for sale?
Why don’t you see many used Schroeder amps for sale? When you buy a Schroeder amp, it’s for life. So many of my customers have been searching for “the right” amp for decades. Buying, trying and ultimately selling, only to repeat this process again and again. On my bench today are a couple of my first “real” model, the DB7 (now the SA9+). Still owned by the original owner and are in my shop to be freshened up and UPGRADED. Yes that’s right. All of my amplifiers have an upgrade path so that the person who INVESTED IN one of my amps 15 years ago, can use the same amp that they’ve loved, while sharing in design upgrades that have been developed over the years. I can’t think of any other builders who offer this type of lifetime commitment to their creations or customers!
Iggy Pop at Chicago’s Cabaret Metro in 1988. A 17 year old Tim had his mind (and ears) blown. A packed and very sweaty crowd waited for an even sweatier Iggy to jump into the sea of hands so they could pass him around. Flat out Marshall amps and a room full of enough raw energy to power a construction site. Those were the days!
I’m so happy to add this phono stage to my arsenal of demo units. The Bryston PS-3 (top) is the dedicated power supply and the BP2 is the phono stage. It can handle both Moving Magnet (MM) as well as Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. Capacitive loading is available on the MM side while the MC cartridges are fed through an incredibly musical, Jensen transformer which yields 20dB of additional gain (also available in 30dB). The sound is pure luxury. Detail in the music is revealed from a silent backdrop instead of being thrust at you…
The Only AC/DC Concert Ticket I Have
This was the one and only time I was able to see AC/DC live at the Jam Productions, Ltd Allstate Arena. Back in Black was the first album to make my 6 year old ears say “WTF is this and where can I get more!!?” “That sound” has been stuck in my head since. Leading up to this show, I had seen a few A-list rock bands that were touring “one last time” and was a bit let down... AC/DC did NOT disappoint! It was everything I was hoping to see and hear. A massive stage with a smoking locomotive, Angus leaping (not a high as he used to but it still counted), tone and fire in their bellies. Another desert island concert experience with a check mark next to it.
Creative Mode - January 3rd 2021
I find that when I’m in “creative mode” (designing, making music etc.), clutter or lack of structure, always helps the juices flow. I gravitate towards keeping my surroundings in a state of flux. No “order” to keep my mind in lock step. The mad scientist! Conversely, my bench MUST be immaculate and perfectly ordered. With my head buried in a circuit, muscle memory alone must guide my hand to the tool required. Understanding how my mind works in these different states (for better or worse) is the key to both my happiness and productivity.

Tim with Albert Collins LEGENDARY Telecaster #TBT A VERY young (and slightly embarrassing looking) Tim Schroeder posing with one of the most famous Fender Telecasters of all time, while owned by the late and great Albert Collins. This was snapped...
